Biography

Dr. Wolfgang Ahnert, born in 1945 in Buttstädt, had passed the Technical University, Dresden between 1964 and 1970. Then he joined the Moscow Lomonossow University for one year. After his return he graduated in electroacoustics under Prof. Reichardt, Dresden in 1975.

From 1975 to 1990 Dr. Ahnert was engaged as scientific collaborator at the Berlin Institute for Cultural Buildings. His main interest was to work out concepts and to give consultations on investigations for acoustical projects.
Since 1990 he is the owner of ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert, an acoustical consultant office. Together with Rainer and Stefan Feistel the CAD-Program package EASE&EARS was elaborated, since 1999 a WINDOW version is available and version 4.0 is distributed since August 2002.

In 1993 he became an honorary professor at the Hochschule fuer Film- und Fernsehen Potsdam.

In 1997 he became a partner of the GCA AG (union of 5 independent consultants, covering also stage technique, lighting, air conditioning, physics in construction).

In 2003 , he founded ADA Limited in Cairo, Egypt.

Membership

Dr. Ahnert is a member, since 1988, and a fellow, since 1995, of the Audio Engineering Society (AES).

He is a member, since 1996, and a fellow, since 2005, of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA).

He is also a member of the German DEGA and the British Institute of Acoustics (IOA).

Publications

More than 50 scientific papers have been published.

Dr. Ahnert is one of the authors of a brochure called "Acoustics in Cultural Buildings", the book "Fundamentals of Sound Reinforcement" (1981, 1984 in Russian) and the last book "Sound Reinforcement - Basics and Practice" (1993) - all in German. A full updated English version of the last book came out in London in spring 2000 (“Sound Reinforcement Engineering”), in December 2002 in Chinese language and in August 2003 in Russian. In 2002 he was a coauthor of the “Handbook of Sound Engineering” edited by G. Ballou, 3rd edition.

Awards

In fall 2002 he got the Peter Barnett award by this Institute for his scientific contributions to the field of speech intelligibility and sound source localization.

In Spring 2001 he was awarded the honorary title of „Foreign Professor“ by the State-owned Lomonossov University Moscow.
